This artwork uses a large leaf-like element to elevate a monumental rendition of a root vegetable. The root vegetable is a concise, sculptural depiction of the idea of a food plant. The gesture of raising this food plant is a form of celebration of the activities of the Innovation Garden. The format of this installation is inspired by the shape of a corbel from classical architecture. That gestural ornament features Acanthus leaves in a scroll orientation. The Acanthus leaves are said to symbolize life, immortality, and rebirth. In this artwork, the leaf/scroll wraps the vegetable shape at the top and a set of wheels at the ground. The wheels ground the artwork and make a connection with the WTFB activities that essentially put food in motion.
