The arched array of leaf shapes creates an event, a space, an experience at the start of the hiking trail adjacent to a retirement community in Oro Valley, AZ. The leaf shape is compatible with the landscape yet not intended to replicate any native plant in the landscape at the site. As you are embarking on an excursion in the desert, these leaf shapes could evoke a memory of an experience in another landscape. Associations that are created by that experience can be revisited when the participant returns to the site. The stainless-steel butterfly wind vane adds a bit of playfulness and whimsy to the artwork. The installation is intended to resonate with the entire community and be life-affirming and inspirational.
